Recently, several college students from the Ningbo University’s College of Science and Technology, together designed a baby quilt artifact, and won the 2014 International Red Dot Design Award called the “Oscar Award for Industrial Designâ€.
This baby cuff was named "warm hug." It is 90 centimeters long and 61.5 centimeters wide. There is a circle with a diameter of 13 centimeters at the upper left and a 31 centimeter long slit at the right side of the cloth at the same height as the circle. The design is very simple. From the drawing, it is like a tray in a canteen restaurant and a kitchen cutting board. Design and production of this quilt is Lu Caiyan, Zhang Yu, Lu Zhichao, Cai Chengsi and several other sophomore students.
How does this simple design get a red dot? According to Lu Caiyan, when an adult embraces a baby, he can put his arm in. The child puts it in a wrapped parcel and shifts part of the load from his arm to his shoulder. The specially designed shoulder strap allows the adult to freely transform and hold the child. In order to make this quilt, four college students and instructors repeatedly modified the material and size of the quilt.
