December 27, 2023

Each series of SHUSHU/TONG interprets the modern and diverse female image with fashionable and girly temperament. The 2019 spring and summer series still continues the brand's unique girly temperament and the brand's unique bow, floral and silhouette qualities.

The dual designer brand is an interesting part of the fashion industry ecosystem. These brands have both the characteristics of two designers and their commonalities. Shanghai Fashion Week and YYO FOUNDATION, together with the "THE JOURNAL Fashion System" released during the SS19 order season, specially launched a double designer interview series, inviting two designer brands active in the current Chinese fashion front line to discuss how they are together Use their own ideas to collide with interesting and unique stories.

SHUSHU/TONG was founded by two post-90s designers, SHUSHU and TONG. They graduated from the London Fashion Institute's Graduate School of Women's Design and worked as an intern at independent designer brands Simone Rocha and Gareth Pugh. The two from Chengdu are friends and portfolios. They have been taught in two fashion cities in Shanghai and London, deconstructing the familiar traditional Chinese aesthetics and London street culture.

Under the overlapping of Chinese and Western cultures, the aesthetics full of self-seeking explores fresh design inspiration, fine craftsmanship and special fabrics, thus pursuing the diverse qualities of traditional women and presenting new girls in their eyes. Designers want to express the independence and confidence of contemporary growing girls through SHUSHU/TONG. The cool girls’ thoughts run through, and their unique, rebellious and unique personality can always give infinite inspiration to the new season.

Each series of SHUSHU/TONG interprets the modern and diverse female image with fashionable and girly temperament. The 2019 spring and summer series still continues the brand's unique girly temperament and the brand's unique bow, floral and silhouette qualities.

With the support of Shanghai Fashion Week and VISA, the latest series was released in the official show of Shanghai Fashion Week. It shows that the independent designer brand SHUSHU/TONG is developing towards a more mature and complete brand.

Q: What do you think is the biggest flash point on the other side?

A: Work hard and earnestly.

Q: What kind of opportunity is it for you to decide to make a brand together? Will you feel that you need to have someone else to make this brand more complete?

A: Because we learned from the undergraduate degree and went to graduate school together, we found that each other was in the same aesthetic and many other aspects, so I decided to try the brand together. Of course, we need to have the other side to make this brand more complete, because the two of us have complementary personalities and different areas of expertise. There are divisions in the studio. It is the existence of each other that makes the brand more brilliant.

Q: Have you had any interesting attempts in the creative process?

A: We often explore various proportions, especially profiles, and fabrics, and try to develop more new things.

Q: As a dual designer brand, what do you convey differently from independent designers?

A: No, although we are two people, the information we want to convey is the same.

Q: How do you all communicate the theme of the new season?

A: We will exchange their inspirations inspired by life at the beginning of the new season. Like movies, magazines, and even people on the street, these will be the source of inspiration for the new season.

Q: Where do you feel the greatest accomplishment in creating and operating a brand? Any unexpected gains?

A: Our greatest sense of accomplishment is to see that guests like it and buy SHUSHU/TONG. This is the biggest affirmation for us!

Q: What is your biggest hobby? Do you have any exposure to this group or what inspiration?

A: We have been learning Japanese and ballet recently. I feel that this is a new world that is completely different from the design. It is quite interesting.

Q: Do you have any plans for cross-border cooperation in the future? Or what kind of group or industry would you like to work with?

A: We have been working with Yvmin on accessories since the last season, and we hope that cooperation will continue in the next quarter.
