Uniqlo Planning Hong Kong Stock Exchange Lists Its First Financial Results for 2013

On the 15th of this month, another Uniqlo store opened in New York. At the same time, Uniqlo’s first financial report was released in 2013. With more than 50% of the expected revenue from 347 stores worldwide, UNIQLO stated that it intends to plan for listing in Hong Kong during the year. This will also mean that even if Uniqlo moves toward internationalization, the status of Asia’s main battlefield cannot be shaken.

In the second half of 2012, UNIQLO gave a voice that it will slow down the pace of opening stores in the face of weakness in the Asian market. However, recently, UNIQLO's parent company Fast Retailing reported that it was “relatively conservative in estimating expectations.” Reflecting the relevant data for this financial year, it has shown that business performance in China, South Korea and Asia has exceeded the original target. It is understood that Uniqlo's global brand sales and revenue increased by 23% in the first quarter compared to the same period last year. Compared with the same period of last year, the revenue of the international market segment exceeded 50%.

Following the opening of the first financial report in the coming year, it was reported that UNIQLO intends to list in Hong Kong during the year and stressed that the company temporarily wants to list in an introduction format that does not involve fund raising. In fact, in August last year, after the success of the Japanese pinball machine operator Dy-nam (6889) listing in Hong Kong, Uniqlo demonstrated its interest in going out of Hong Kong. It is learnt that the company had contacted relevant parties and institutions at that time to discuss the possibility of listing in Hong Kong.
